36 credit hours

A degree in Interdisciplinary Studies prepares you for multiple career opportunities. As a student in this program, you will expand your knowledge of human cultures as well as the physical and natural world, enhance your ability to communicate effectively in written, spoken, and digital forms, and develop essential habits of mind for solving problems strategically and collaboratively by crossing disciplinary boundaries. All this involves skills in teamwork, project management, computer and multimedia competency, and effective time management. Many government, business, and non-profit organizations, as well as other employers, are looking for graduates with these cross-disciplinary skills. A Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies may be earned traditionally or online.

The Interdisciplinary Studies major is grounded in flexibility and customization, which allows students to choose emphases that provide a cohesive thematic framework to their studies and broad professional pathways upon graduation. One of the emphases is Emergent Digital Practices, which serves students interested in multiple nascent technologies, their artistic expression, and human application. The emphasis draws knowledge from various programs, such as Art and Design, Gaming, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, English, and Philosophy and Religion. The skills developed in the Emergent Digital Practices emphasis expand students’ knowledge of the intersection of arts and technology, increase their creativity, and ensure a broad career pathway in several relevant fields, such as game and product design, and software and human interfacing, among others.
