Requirements
For students seeking K-12 certification in instrumental music, the Bachelor of Arts in Music can be combined with a minor in education. This program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the following courses:
Education (Grades K-12) Minor Coursework
37 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Oral Communications Coursework
3 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Content Area Coursework
9 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Foundation Coursework
39 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Private Lessons Coursework I
3 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Private Lessons Coursework II
3 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Ensemble Coursework
6 credit hours of large instrumental ensemble coursework from the following options: Capstone Coursework
1 credit hour of coursework from the following option: Seminar Coursework
Zero credit hour course in which students are required to enroll every fall and spring semester (except during student teaching) from matriculation to degree conferral.
Vocal/Choral Endorsement Coursework

Additional Requirements
- A three-credit hour U.S. Government course.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
- Passing scores on periodic assessments of program-level student learning outcomes, including the Piano Proficiency Exam.
Notes:
(1) The total number of credit hours required for K-12 certification is dependent on the student’s major content area. (2) Students in secondary education (9-12) and K-12 certification programs must officially declare a minor in either secondary education (9-12) or education (K-12) in order to be recognized for the additional educational coursework completed.
