The Geospatial Intelligence and Sustainability major prepares students with both technical proficiency and subject matter expertise to address complex societal challenges. Through a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum, students develop hands-on skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and spatial data analysis, earning a stackable GIS certificate as part of their studies.

This program enables students to apply geospatial technologies and data-driven decision making in diverse fields, including International Security and Sustainability, Public History, and Public Health. Graduates are equipped to foster positive change, combining a thorough understanding of pressing issues with competencies highly sought-after in today’s job market. Whether pursuing careers in sustainable communities, public policy, or advocacy, students are prepared to excel professionally while making a meaningful impact.

Concentration Area Coursework


Students personalize their academic experience by selecting 15 credits from one or more of the following concentration areas. At least 9 credits must be completed at the 30000-40000 levels in the student’s chosen concentration:

Students in this program are required to complete MTH 14100 Basic Statistics to satisfy their General Education requirement in Math.
