Exercise Science, BS Pre-Athletic Training Emphasis

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs (A-Z)

106-107 credit hours

The Exercise Science (BS) with emphasis in Pre-Athletic Training provides students with a strong foundation in exercise science while integrating the prerequisite coursework necessary for admission into a graduate-level athletic training program. This emphasis is designed to support a smooth transition into Lindenwood’s Athletic Training (MS) program through the university’s 3+2 accelerated pathway.

Qualified students in the 3+2 pathway can complete both the Exercise Science (BS) and Athletic Training (MS) degrees in five years. During the first three years, students complete the general education requirements and core coursework in exercise science. Upon acceptance into the Athletic Training (MS) program, students begin graduate-level coursework in their fourth year, culminating in the completion of both degrees in five years.

Enrollment in the Athletic Training (MS) program requires a separate, competitive application through the Athletic Training Centralized Application System (ATCAS). The application is completed during the year prior to beginning the Athletic Training (MS) program. Admission is not guaranteed. Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher

  • Completion or near completion of general education and prerequisite courses

  • A minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours completed at the time of application

  • A minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours completed prior to entering the Athletic Training (MS) program

Current Lindenwood students and qualified transfer students may pursue the 3+2 option, although individual timelines may vary based on prior coursework. This accelerated program provides an efficient, structured route to professional certification, meeting the educational requirements to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination in athletic training.

Students who choose not to pursue admission to the Athletic Training (MS) program-or who are not accepted-will be required to change their emphasis in the Exercise Science (BS) program or complete the standalone Exercise Science (BS) program to complete their undergraduate degree requirements.
