Study what you love with the history major. History majors learn power skills like problem-solving, communication, empathy, and ethical reasoning. They also know, perhaps better than anyone, how to step back and see things in context, which allows them to think bigger, dream a step ahead, and be the visionary on any team.

Major Coursework

3 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Global Citizenship Coursework
6 credit hours of coursework from the following options: U.S. History Coursework
6 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Global History Coursework
6 credit hours of coursework from the following options: Elective Coursework
9 credit hours from any HIST coursework at or above the 30000-level. 1) Students pursuing grades 9-12 Social Science teaching certification must fill these elective credits by taking additional courses listed above under U.S. History Coursework. 2) Some relevant coursework from other disciplines (especially GEO and PS) may be accepted as substitute requirements with the permission of the department head. 3) Students interested in pursuing grades 9-12 Social Science teaching certification must also complete the Social Science minor as well as a minor in secondary education. Students seeking (Grades 9-12) certification must (1) earn a Bachelor of Arts in history, (2) complete the requirements for a minor in social science, and (3) complete the requirements for a minor in education (Grades 9-12). Note: Students seeking grades K-12 or 9-12 certification will work with one professional advisor when admitted to Lindenwood. Upon completion of a number of successful terms at Lindenwood, students pursuing grades K-12 or 9-12 certification will transition to a content area advisor and an advisor from the College of Education and Human Services to ensure all DESE requirements for certification have been met. These requirements may exceed the requirements for the degree in the content area. |
