ARTH 56200 - Twentieth-Century Art/Contemporary

This course is a study of the developments in Europe and America from the Second World War to the Post-modern era and examines the social and historical contexts of art produced, their theoretical justifications and critical receptions, and their varied functions. Beginning with Abstract Expressionism following the War, artists reacted to the political environment and the new emigres from Europe and dematerialized art, looking to engage with new audiences with new media and messages. This class may require the use of a virtual reality headset identified by the instructor.
